But authorities in Fairfax County are objecting because of already traffic-clogged roads surrounding the proposed site.
Universal City Property Management III, of Orlando, Florida, submitted the unsolicited proposal for the theme park last year.
"You can command the latest M-1 tank, feel the rush of a paratrooper freefall, fly a Cobra Gunship or defend your B-17 as a waist gunner," according to the proposal, which was obtained by The Washington Post.
County officials have no authority over the Army's decision because the site is federal property. County Supervisor T. Dana Kauffman said he thought the entertainment concept died last year and said he had no interest in turning a military museum into "Disney on Rolling Road."
But the Army notified the county last week it is planning to move the military museum from Fort Belvoir to a site a few miles away that would be large enough for the entertainment complex.

Arthur Lee

First Syd Barrett, now Arthur Lee. Thanks to free thunderstorms, a nearby tornado, and hail in the mid-afternoon, the evening was cool enough to inhabit the panicked attic. The official head count was 30 people plus our hosts, and covered a wide range of interests, backgrounds, affiliations, etc.

Ted Pelton led off reading all the sex scenes from his new book - Malcolm & Jack - mainly because he felt he couldn't anywhere else. My favorite was the prep school boys pseudo-sex during a piggyback race.

Ted was followed by Robin Brox who "whored herself up" (her words) for the event. I have been familiar with Robin's work for about 7 or 8 years now, and last night really proved to me how far along she has come. Powerful stuff.

Finally, Kevin Corbett is the great hidden wonder of Buffalo poetry. Playing a sampler, pedals, and Thurston plucking guitar strings, he orchestrated a soundscape of feedback, beats, and Red Fox saying "I am going to give you a sentence. This is the sentence." Good times.

Ted will be hosting another part in this series in September, and Holly & I are considering an event in our copious backyard in July or August, when panicked attics hibernate...so, stay tuned.

Cuneiform Press

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; The Gratwick Peonies (linwoodgardens.org). This the Estate where the likes of WCW, Olson, Langston Hughes, Ansel Adams, etc. stayed when they came to Buffalo. It is huge, it is rundown, and it is beautiful. Crazy Bill Gratwick hybridized tree peonies in his infinite free time, and even named one "Ezra Pound" (right next to "Captain's Concubine").

2.) A few of us viewed a 16mm collage film that Jess made c. late '50's-early '60's with experimental filmmaker Laurence Jordan (himself a onetime assistant to Joseph Cornell). Two Duncan scholars in the room, and no one had seen these collages before. I don't think this film has been viewed since Jess made it. Thanks to the Poetry Collection here, I got a chance.

Yes, I am bragging, but those of you who want to live in the South, this is what you miss. Besides, I am sweating like a southerner right now.
